More Mashups

More mashups from the past two months. These worlds only exist for about one second as one picture fades out while another fades in via my computer's screensaver, set to randomly display all the pictures stored therein (about 18,000 photos). Some of the more jarring ones often combine wildly disparate elements of different sizes and perspectives.



Other combos juxtapose landscapes or nature scenes with human structures.





The colors are often fantastical, partially due to the fade in/out and the precise moment of capture.





Moon scenes are especially beguiling. Keep in mind I do not choose these photos' juxtapostions. Randomness is at the heart of the exercise.




The clouds of a landscape photo merge with the living roof of the California Academy of Sciences. Since some photos are horizontal and others vertical, a pairing of each will often occur with obvious lines. I usually crop to the innermost rectangle, but occasionally the end result makes more sense artistically and structurally if I keep the entire pairing.

Here's an example of a mashup where one photo is already a mashup, creating a triple layer. The double church mashup combined with a pic of part of a painting of a clarinet player with smoke pouring out of the bell.

Reflections and Mashups

Reflections and mashups. Here's a great reflection shot from friend Katie's corner apartment. The actual view looks northwest in this photo. The reflection includes the not-pictured northerly and northeasterly view, mapping huge portions of the city onto its northwestern quarter:
